A rare chance to learn stamp carving with an expert at a reduced cost to you!

In this workshop, we will use Speedball's Speedy Carve 4"x6" pink rubber plates and linocut tools to carve your own design. We will then roll ink onto your carved design and print by hand on paper. You can also cut the plate into smaller sizes and print with a large inkpad, as stamps.

Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like to purchase 1 or 2 rubber plates. The instructor will have a few additional plates available for cash purchase in during workshop. The instructor will provide Akua inks, paper, and a large black inkpad for participants.

You are required to bring your own linocut tool to class. You can purchase it on Amazon here: Buy the Speedball Linocut Tool

    About The Instructor:

Selected as Artist-of-the-Year in 2003, Mona joined Artworks Gallery on Trade Street as an exhibition member in the same year. Mona currently teaches Printmaking at the Sawtooth School of Visual Art in Winston-Salem.

This workshop has been brought to you with reduced fees thanks to the Shallow Ford Foundation.

Join us for a fascinating afternoon of upcycled weaving with artist Kelsey Merreck Wagner

At this lunch-and-learn (see details below to order lunch), Kelsey will discuss her creative process, community engagement, and the sustainable message behind her work.  She will also share about her recent exhibits and residencies in Thailand and Malaysia, as well as two co-curated projects she worked on as part of her Ph.D. dissertation.  She will also bring examples of her work to share and a rigid heddle loom for a brief demonstration of her practice.

Wagner is always on the lookout for recycled materials: if you have plastic bags, wires, or old clothes, please bring them to the lunch-and-learn!

    About the Artist:

Kelsey Merreck Wagner is a textile artist, visual anthropologist, and environmental activist who recently relocated to Winston-Salem and joined AAWS.  She makes weavings entirely from recycled materials she collects through community contributions and ecological clean-ups, incorporating post-consumer waste such as plastic bags, technology cords, product wrappers and packaging, old clothes, housewares, holiday decorations, and more into the weft of her textiles.
